Questions:
1. I saw that Wordsmith has new editions available. What
revisions were made to the series?
Answers:
1. Wordsmith Apprentice (grades
4-6) has a new, updated easy-to-read format. No content changes were made.
In Wordsmith (grades 7-9), there are additional exercises and short
assignments, review quizzes for extra practice plus more explanation and
examples.
The new Wordsmith Teacher's Guide contains more information about our
philosophy of writing and how to review. Also included are suggestions for
further writing projects and for incorporating creative writing into other
areas of the curriculum--history, science, music, etc.--and for starting a
writers' club. This helps the teacher expand Wordsmith into a two-year
language arts course!
The new edition of Wordsmith Craftsman (10th and up) includes more
examples and clearer explanations, as well as updated information reflecting
the growth of personal computers and Internet use. The two most significant
additions are:
-
A Word About Research Papers, offering tips on how to
expand the skills taught for the expository essay into a formal term paper.
A six-page section on how to write a
critical essay, which helps young
people evaluate the movies they see and the books they read.
